Dangerous Living

Then

What is money if not spent or clothes if not worn

The choices are all before me, this, that or both.

The freedom, an elixir I crave like a wanderer at the city gates.

I can do this and more, its my life, thats all that matters.

Dear Mum, Stop Spending on your Kids

Aww, it’s so cute” I just have to buy it —

“I know Isabelle is not old enough but she will look like a little princess in this”

“Look at that train? It looks so real, I’m sure Jason will love it”.

Are you a mum, mum to be or dedicated Aunty? If so, I’m sure you have made the above statements or a few other variations.

On the scale of 1-10, spending on kids must be right up there at 20. Yes, I said it (or wrote it :-))

Let’s be honest here. Who are you really buying for?

The Beauty of ‘Alone’ Time

Serenity 1

I see beauty everywhere. The little girl smiling at her mum. The baby cocooned in warm and loving arms. Friends, laughing and telling jokes.

To me, these things are daily interactions and happenings but yet still beautiful. They are even more poetic when I witness them in my quiet moments.

The daily hustle and bustle of life may mean you miss out on the little things.

In your haste to belong or be noticed, you may lose out on the learning and instructive process that happens when you are alone.

Populist media has, in many ways, painted the alone times as one of sadness, desperation and boredom and the truth is that it is far from this. It really depends on how you use this time.

You can’t miss what you didn’t know

Plan and goals

Let me tell you a little story of my pillow journey. A few years ago I had this hard and flat pillow. It was like a rock (Olumo Rock). Throw it against a wall and it will probably break it. 🙂

Fast forward a few years later, I was finally liberated with a better pillow (don’t know why it took so long though, maybe misplaced frugality). I liked this one, wasn’t as hard or flat and no more morning headaches but recently, I was gifted with a pillow (yes, it can be a gift) and it was bliss. Now I have a smile anytime I lay my head on the pillow. Didn’t know what I was missing.

Six Reasons Why Blogging is Great but Hard

why blog

I love blogging, I really do. I have been doing it for a little over a year and so far it’s been great. I have learnt so much. Mainly about myself and what I am able to do, which has definitely been wonderful.

Blogging makes me feel like a creative (who knew!!), it has also given me a chance to write as often as I want about my chosen topics without being boxed into a corner or with restrictions. But the truth is that it is hard. Like many other projects, it requires your time, energy and some level of skill. Would I still recommend this to others – yes, but doesn’t change the fact that it can be difficult.

Jo Cox – An Impassioned Life

Jo Cox

I had never met her. I didn’t even know about her until Thursday, June 16 2016. But what I’ve learnt about her made an impression.

It is indeed a tragic loss to her family, friends, her constituents and the UK at large. There are likely going to be policy and political implications from this terrible incident.

While these are being considered, I would like to focus on her life, at least, what I have read and heard about her.

Persistence – What I learnt from Colonel Sanders

Colonel sanders

It seems there are various versions of the story of Colonel Sanders. I guess when you are that popular, people write all sorts of stories about you. The truth, the maybes and of course, the mere fabrications.

Without getting too caught up with what the story really is, there is one truth that all the versions seem to agree on; that Colonel Sanders created the Kentucky Fried Chicken and for the lifelong fans, our dearest KFC.

You might be wondering why this post is about the Colonel. Interestingly, it happened by chance, I read about him a few years ago(at least the Wikipedia version but took that with a pinch of salt as you probably should) but recently, a speaker used him in an example and I got to thinking about the Colonel and how he turned things around.
